About Bill 44

Information to Parents and Guardians

Regarding the Permeation of the Catholic Faith in Edmonton Catholic Schools

As a result of Bill 44, The Alberta Human Rights Act requires all schools in the province of Alberta to give notice to a parent or guardian when courses of study, educational programs, institutional materials, instruction or exercises include subject matter that deals primarily and explicitly with religion.

The essential purpose of Edmonton Catholic Schools is to fully permeate Catholic theology, philosophy, practices and beliefs, the principles of the Gospel and teachings of the Catholic Church, in all aspects of school life, including in the curriculum of every subject taught, both in and outside of formal religion classes, celebrations and exercises. Every course of study and education program, all institutional materials, instruction and exercises will at all times include subject matter that deals primarily and explicitly with religion.

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Welcome to École Monsignor William Irwin Catholic School located in Terwillegar Towne. We continue on our learning journey in French Immersion and English elementary programming.  French Immersion is offered from kindergarten to grade 3 for this 2011-2012 school year and K-4 in 2012-2013.  Our school will provide each child with leading edge technology and learning experiences.

As your administrative team, children are at the heart of our work, and providing them with an outstanding education is central to our mission. Please know that we are very approachable and you can e-mail us if you have any questions.

As we begin the 2012-2013 school year planning our students will be inspired to learn to their fullest potential. We are so blessed to have our namesake, Monsignor William Irwin,  who was a man of vision, faith and the lived action for helping others by beginning the Catholic Social Services organization. We are connecting many learning and faith activities for our students with CSS each year.

We thank you for visiting our website and do not hesitate to contact us. We leave you with an inspiring quote that motivates us as educators.

“Children Are The Only Future The Human Race Has; Teach Them Well”.
